National Theatre Live TREASURE ISLAND
Since my inbox has a steady stream of disappointing news of things being pushed back, shows not coming back, and even Comic-Con is canceled now (which had to happen but I’m still going to cry about it), and since we really shouldn’t leave the house running away and adventuring seems unlikely. This is where London’s National Theatre TREASURE ISLAND comes in!
True, I would absolutely run away in the T.A.R.D.I.S. and I think "Pirates of the Caribbean" could be used as an instructional film (kidding, I could never spend that much time in the sunshine without dying) - so this theatrical pirate adventure is the best plan I've got.
Now, through Thursday, April 23rd they are streaming their recording of their staging of TREASURE ISLAND for us all to enjoy. Arthur Darvill stars as Long John Silver (not quite Rory in “Doctor Who” but adventurous nonetheless), and Patsy Ferran is the innkeepers' young granddaughter, Jim Hawkins who finds adventure at sea.
Adapted by Bryony Lavery and directed by Polly Findlay, Robert Louis Stevenson’s story of murder, money, and mutiny is brought to life in this thrilling stage adaptation is streaming for free here. This pirates adventure story is suitable for families with children aged 10+.
Previous shows streamed for free on The National Theatre's channel were ONE MAN, TWO GUVNERS, and JANE EYRE, with TWELFTH NIGHT starring Tamsin Greig starts on April 23rd. Hopefully, they will release additional shows for the end of April through May, but nothing has been announced as of yet.
Thanks to all of the artists involved in these shows, as well as the National Theatre for working together to make these shows available for everyone to watch.
