Tuesday, April 7th – The Eastern kicks off its new virtual series “Performance & Pedagogy”

The Eastern San Diego

Tuesdays & Thursdays: Plays!
On select Tuesdays and Thursdays, join founding members of The Eastern, Steve Schmitz and Justin Allen Slagle, to explore plays. Some sessions will be virtual play-readings, some discuss and analyze the text, and others will be advanced scene and character breakdowns.

Wednesday: HAPPIEST HOUR
A virtual “hang out.” Grab a beer, a snack and hangout… chatting about this and that, how you’re feeling, theatre and arts… or whatever else comes to mind.

Saturday: Voice for Actors 101 & Movement Class
Take group voice and dialect classes with Vanessa Dinning. Voice for actors will focus on breath and body connection, freeing the voice, resonance and text-connection.  Dialect work will be an introduction to approaching dialects. Both will include effective warm up work and vocal health advice (from the voice, not medical view)

In addition, Alyssa Austin will offer Movement for Actors, and/or Dance classes that will vary from week to week (Warming Up the Body for Auditions, Musical Theatre Fundamentals, Intro to Tap, Intro to Jazz, and intermediate level combination-based dance classes).

Sundays: The Biz / Audition Prep / Self-Tapes / Resumes
As people who are usually the ones watching the auditions, this is an opportunity to give feedback on how to present yourself in the best way possible. These sessions will be informal - each will cover a basic topic followed by a Q&A/Open Discussion

All sessions will take place on Zoom (information to join sessions will be shared privately with interested parties). These sessions are free and open to the public, but donations are accepted.

You can register for individual sessions here
